As I woke up I was a bit worried about the bad weather (it was snowing!), but despite the cold, birding was rewarding anyway. I spent the morning at Lisert (GO) where a stunning
SLAVONIAN GREBE was showing well on the sea (quite close to shore) along with some
Great Crested and
Black-necked Grebes. On the sea also nine very far
Black-throated Divers, some
Red-breasted Mergansers two
Common Eiders and one
Med Gull. The inner marsh/lagoon/basin yielded a nice number of
Pintails and
Shovelers, plus some
Curlews. In the surrounding area also:
Marsh Harrier,
Hen Harrier (both sexes),
Woodlark (15x in flock feeding on the ground with Buntings),
Water Pipit,
Fan-tailed Warbler,
Great Grey Shrike (one), plus mixed flocks of
Chaffinches,
Goldfinches,
Siskins and
Reed Buntings (some males with almost black head), one male
Cirl Bunting and some
Rock Buntings.
